Past simple e past continuous: come funziona

Il past continuous (was/were + -ing) descrive un'azione in corso in un momento del passato: At 8 pm I was cooking. Insieme al past simple indica un'azione più breve che la interrompe: I was cooking when the phone rang. Il past simple da solo racconta eventi conclusi in ordine: I cooked, ate and went to bed.
