Used to and would: how it works

Used to + infinitive describes past habits and states that are no longer true: I used to live in Lima. Would + infinitive also describes repeated past actions, but not states: Every summer we would swim in the lake. For a present habit, use be used to + -ing: I'm used to getting up early.

Common mistakes

    Write used to in positive sentences.
