Simple Past dan Past Continuous: cara kerjanya
Past continuous (was/were + -ing) menggambarkan tindakan yang sedang berlangsung pada saat tertentu di masa lalu: At 8 pm I was cooking. Bersama past simple, bentuk ini menunjukkan tindakan lebih singkat yang memotongnya: I was cooking when the phone rang. Past simple saja menceritakan peristiwa yang selesai secara berurutan: I cooked, ate and went to bed.

Was/were + -ing.
Salah:
When the phone was ringing, I answered it.Benar: When the phone rang, I answered it.
Tindakan singkat yang selesai: past simple.
Salah:
They was playing football.Benar: They were playing football.
Dengan you, we, they: were.
Salah:
I was knowing her well.Benar: I knew her well.
Stative verb tidak dipakai dalam continuous.
